We invite mothers of children aged 6 to 12 years, residing in Metro Vancouver to participate in a survey study on children’s outdoor play. Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to one of the following three study groups and invited to take our survey at 3 different times. Each survey can take 15-30 minutes to complete, depending which study group they are assigned to.

In-person workshop Participants will take our survey at three different times* and also attend an in-person workshop. We are currently offering workshops on:

  • Sun May 13, 1-2:30pm at BC Children’s
  • Thur May 17, 6-7:30pm at BC Children’s
  • Tue May 22, 11:30am-1:00pm at Surrey central library
  • Mon June 11, 1:30-3:000pm at BC Children’s

We are looking for children between the ages of 10-13 years who can participate in physical activities, and their parents. Eligible participants must reside in one of the three Metro Vancouver neighbourhoods below:

Grandview-Woodland area (between Clark and Nanaimo, North of Broadway)
Lower or Central Lonsdale area (between Jones Rd and Grand Blvd, South of #1 Highway)
Steveston area (South of William Road, West of No. 2 Road)

Eligible children will wear a GPS watch and an accelerometer for 7 days. After a week, we will get together for an individual interview. Study participation is completely voluntary and is arranged at participant’s convenience.

At the end of the participation, children will receive $100 and each participating parent will receive $50 honorarium.
